Ode to Black Women came to fruition as a result of rumors of policies being passed that would harm the Black and Brown communities. These policies include Florida banning "controversial" books and the teaching of A.P. African American History, and Jim Crow laws returning to parts of Mississippi. This project is also meant to celebrate pillars of change, specifically Black women. Showcasing these images in color reminds us that the past isn't as distant as we are taught to believe. By making myself these women, I am cementing them in our present.
